November 10th 2011 witnessed the successful casting of 420mm×1,870mm slab from ultra-heavy slab caster supplied by CISDI on EP basis for Xinyu Steel, which is also the thickest slab ever produced by vertical-curved caster in the world so far. Two heats were cast in sequence at 0.5-0.6m/min. for medium-carbon structural steel. The produced slab are good in shape and surface quality, with central segregation of C0.5~C1. This caster is designed to produce slab with thickness of 300mm ~ 420mm and max. width of 2400mm.
This success enables Xinyu Steel to be the owner of the world’s first vertical-curved extra-heavy slab caster for producing 420mm slabs, and also outstands CISDI in global ultra-heavy slab caster sector.

October 30th witnessed the inking of 420mm ultra-heavy slab caster contract between Xinyu Steel and CISDI. As the world’s first vertical-curved ultra-heavy slab caster designed to produce 420mm slab, the project is technically challenging, but CISDI team made a good efforts to tackle all bottlenecks to implement it with its proprietary technologies such as hydraulic oscillation, dynamic soft reduction, automatic control of dynamic secondary cooling and spray width adjustment.
This caster can produce slab with thickness of 300mm~420mm and max. width of 2400mm. Since its hot on-load test in March 10th, 2011, it has successfully produced slabs of 300mm, 320mm and 360mm thick, which were rolled into 22~150mm thick carbon structural plate, low alloy structural plate, low alloy pressure vessel plate, high-strength shipbuilding plate (highest grade: E), high-rise building plates (lamellar tearing resistant plate), and bridge plates. Some of these heave plates have been exported to overseas market.
