Thyristor Variable-frequency Induction Furnace for Copper Melting

The Office of Science and Technology of Shaanxi Province sponsored the appraisal of “Thyristor variable-frequency induction furnace for copper melting" developed by MCC-Xi’an Electric Furnace Institute Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CISDI. According to the appraisal committee, this development result is original and leading in China, with some data reaching the world level.

This development result has been applied in 100,000t/a high-precision copper sheet/strip project of CHINALCO, and has been functioning properly since its startup in February 2013.
 
The equipment features novel design and process, new inductor technology and variable-frequency power supply technology, which is at least 10% lower in cracking rate, 28% lower in temperature-holding power if compared with imported similar furnaces. The ingot acceptance rate is over 97%. The converter without launder between the melting furnace and holding furnace becomes simpler, contributing to easier slag cleaning and smoother production.
 
So far this technical achievement has been granted five patents from the State Intellectual Property Office of China.
